Today we'll remember twenty five years since the Bhopal disaster in India. Less well known than the Chernobyl disaster Disaster possibly, but disaster was equally if not more serious. I heard Bhopal disaster for our first series of lectures Professor Andrew Linklater on presentation to International Politics during my first year at University. A Linklater is one of the leading authorities on International Relations and not many people are aware that he lives and works out of the Department of Politics at Aberystwyth. Since it is so much authority in his field, and is as much a "name" because the University should just let him lock himself in his stydi'n usually doing research. But every year one module teaches the students and I had the privilege of sitting at his feet in 2003. Shot his module actually did explain to us that Politics and International Relations in a lot more than just military and diplomatic considerations and tensions. And in one of the lectures he uttered about the Bhopal disaster reporting and analysis in the context of diplomatic history and international relations. In short, what happened was that the company's plant in Bhopal American Union Carbide, which produced anti killers, has dropped a fair amount of toxic methyl isocyanate gas into the air. In a new report entitled 'Living the Dream? ', Consumer Focus explores the experiences of people living in park homes in England. The report highlights the serious problems faced by some residents, including sales processes, maintenance, security problems, problems with the supply of energy and water, and unacceptable behavior park home site operators. Consumer Focus is calling for a number of measures to improve the lives of residents who are often among the most vulnerable people in our society. "Park home" is the standard isg name for mobile home is set on a residential site or "park homes". The Government estimates that around 160,000 people are living in about 1,950 park home sites across England. Many people retire to live in such a home - the report highlights that the vast majority of residents are 61 years of age or older, and that more than a quarter of those aged 71 years and older 1. The report was published just before the Private Member's Bill in the House of Commons on Friday 19th October The Bill was introduced isg by Peter Aldous, MP, and includes a number of recommendations for improving conditions isg for residents of park homes 2. Consumer Focus supports this Bill, hoping that it will tackle many of the problems that some residents of park homes are facing at the moment. 'By making this research, we wanted to get an accurate picture of the experience of living in a park home. Unfortunately, this will not be the ideal home in which many people have imagined. Our research found that many residents had their lives ruined isg by maintenance of low quality site operators aggressive, high living costs and bills too high. 'The fact that many of the residents are elderly people are more concern. The operators of the power to vet potential buyers, and this provides the opportunity for some to stop residents sell their homes. This practice can cause significant financial loss and distress for sellers, and the process must sell for park homes to be revised. ' Consumer Focus carried out interviews with residents of park homes and local authorities, and the findings revealed isg a number of areas of concern, including: Site Owner prevent residents from selling. So, there I was at the 99 Cents Store buying a few snacks and canned goods when I saw this beaded ring that would have been hideous (and can we say downright gaudy ?) as a ring but gorgeous as a hair clip. Of course, I bought it for a buck, ripped off the ring part, and hot glued on a bobby pin. Viola! How lucky I felt when the very next week I found these Spritz flower gift bows at Target in the cards and wrapping section. Believe it or not, these are actually present toppers. For only $1, I knew I'd have another cute hair clip--plus, I'd been wanting soymadridista some red flowers since I have practically every other color but red. And I wear a hair clip that matches my outfit every day, so these details are important. Antonio is such a special and wonderful son. We all love him dearly and cater to him a bit, his needs, wants and desires. He is just so precious and caring to us all and he rarely asks for anything. So when he does, we try to make it happen for him. Also...as our children are given money for holidays and birthdays, they choose something they really, really want and save for it. But Antonio is so limited in what he can do or spend his money on, that when he chooses an animal, we also try to make it happen for him. He does a lot of sitting. He loves to sit and watch his animals, especially reptiles. (but not snakes he is quick to say!) So when he asked for a lizard, to spend his birthday/holiday money on, I started to do some research. smoke detector Yes, I am the one to care for his animals so my search was for the easiest to care for lizard out there. Time and time again leopard geckos kept coming up. So I told him if he wanted a lizard how about a leopard gecko as I could easily care for it and they were interesting and came in very nice colors. smoke detector He got very excited about it and so, as a project together, smoke detector we have spent hours on line researching and watching videos about leopard geckos. We have been slowly buying all the things to set up a very nice gecko cage. It has been slow going, as part of the fun in getting the pet is the preparation and learning. He has bought what was needed as we learned about it all. He then got very excited about the nice backgrounds available that people were making. So since I am a project person, I told him I would do the background for him as he watched. He has enjoyed it all very much. I will show you what we have done. I must put a disclaimer here as anything you build for any pet, do research and use all pet safe, tried and true methods so as not to kill your animal. In other words, if you are making this for a reptile terrarium, make it at your own risk. First, I went to Home Depot and bought these square smoke detector insulation boards. Then I cut a piece to fit the back of his tank. I cut it about a half an inch shorter top and sides, because smoke detector I knew I was going to use tile for the flooring and that would raise it up some. The large sheets were a lot more expensive than these small squares. I did not want to pay the price of the huge sheets of board and these were a bit short for his tank so I did glue two pieces together to make it long enough, so there is a seam in our background. Antonio and I am sure the gecko will not care. I was trying to save money and do this as inexpensively as possible. Then I cut two pieces (the same shape) in the basic shape I wanted (like a rock) and glued them on top of each other with Lock-tite and let them dry/cure for 24 hours. I made four of these. Once I had the rocks shaped, I took the background and just randomly cut the front edge all the way around to make it beveled. I wanted the rocks to be placed on the background so that the lizard could climb up from one to another like stairs. So I started gluing them on in order from the bottom in the pattern I wanted. William made me little lego scaffolding the right height to hold the rocks on the background straight till they dried/cured. You can see in the above picture the beveled edge on the background itself. I also made a freestanding smoke detector rock and carved a little cave inside smoke detector for under the right side in the space at the bottom smoke detector as leopard geckos like to hide. I understand there is many ways to go forward from here. Some people texturize the whole thing with a hot torch or heat gun. Some people use several thin layers of watered down grout to make it almost rock like. Doing that fills in any faults and cracks. I went with the spray paint approach. According to those who have done this before as long as you use water clean up/based spray paint you are ok. So I then took Rust-o-leum home accents "stone" paint and spray painted each piece with several coats. Then went over the whole thing with a thick layer of water based polycrylic. smoke detector (again use at your own risk) Some people sprinkled sand onto the last coat of polycrylic for texture and to take some of the shine off it. But I figure smoke detector the shinier, the easier to clean. So smoke detector here it is all done with the tile down and the background curing for a week or so. For the last few weeks our washing machine has been making some horrible noises as it enters the spin cycle. Think of a hammer hitting sheet metal. The vibrations were so powerful that the machine moved around during each load. Some internet hunting made me think that the shock absorbers were broken, and popping off the lower panel confirmed it. Hmmmm…what to do? The internets said that having it repaired would run around $300. I found some knock-off absorbers heider on Amazon with fairly decent reviews for $20. I think you can guess which way I went. I started the project the other night and quickly learned that the 2 hour estimates that I had been skeptical of were probably pretty accurate. It’s a very easy job, but there is a lot of awkward reaching, which makes it VERY difficult to get the plastic pins back through heider the new shocks. It was impossible to do with my hands, but I had an epiphany when I woke up this morning and realized that a socket wrench might do the trick (it did.) The only real trouble spots were that the pin in the first pic is blocked by a metal box. I was able to bend it out, but there was no way to re-install it in the same direction. I opted to just stick it in from the front, which will come back to haunt me if I ever have to take it out again (there is a locking tab that needs to be pushed in, and I’ll never find it in the back.) Regardless, we’re back in operation, and our house is no longer filled with the sounds of banging. Recently, after watching Joel Salatin’s DVD Pigs n Glens , Bard of Harmony Homestead and I decided to build a simple spycamdude yet cost effective fencing system for our naturally raised pigs. After a few modifications to match our site and our needs we decided to build a fence that was easy to move, quick to set up, relatively inexpensive, long life, little plastic, spycamdude and sourced locally. In this post I will share the materials, costs, and set up of a movable electric fencing system to contain naturally raised pigs in woodlands or pasture. This information is for a 1 acre paddock. This information will help anyone who is interested in starting a similar operation on a budget.
Depending on how you source each piece of material, you will expect to pay a total of no more than $350 per acre. Most of the fence is reusable for a very long time. So the costs go down over time due to the durability of the fence and it is movable. We cut the rebar posts at 2.5 feet each. That gave us 8 posts per 20 feet of rebar. Each 2.5 ‘ spycamdude post has 2 insulators for a 2 wire pig fence. We used t post on the corners and for the gate latch area. We connected wire by tying the wire together very tightly avoiding the need for expensive crimps. spycamdude We suggested trying to get supplies locally however sometimes that is not feasible. We suggest Kencove Fence Supply . To complete the circuit we just put in a jumper of aluminum wire from the top strand to bottom strand. Hmmm …… What else? Oh.. If you have some areas that are lower on the bottom strand just add one insulator and put the post in at an angle so the top wire will not hit and ground out. James Grant recovering nicely from the shark bite that he fixed up on his own. Which is why New Zealander James Grant, 24, is my kind of guy. According to the Sydney (Australia) Morning surveillance equipment Herald, Grant was spearfishing along the coast of New Zealand, in maybe about six feet of water when he felt a shark bite his leg. Grant said he thought, "Bugger, now I have to try and get this thing off my leg." Let's stop there for a second. Notice the lack of panic. I love it. Grant had a knife, for his spearfishing, so he stabbed the offending shark, which then let go of its grip. Eventually, his friends returned, and after their fun day retired to Colac Bay Tavern for a beer. The people at the tavern like Grant, but were slightly annoyed by the blood dripping on the floor, so they gave him a bandage to help contain the mess. After his beer, he went to a nearby hospital where he works so they could improve upon his stitching a bit. And so, after another enjoyable but routine weekend, he went back to work the following Monday. I really do have to wonder what in the world, if anything, would alarm Grant. Frugal Valentine s Day I Love You Banner You can find paint swatches for free at your local hardware store, or retail store even. Grab just a few, as you won t need many for this project. You will need three larger squares, and a few smaller for your lettering. If you don t own scalloped scissors don t fret, you can use regular scissors and just create a fancier edge. Directions: 1. Begin by cutting your lettering out of your darker colored samples. You want them to pop against the background, so darker shades work best. Cut out a simple i , a heart, and then a u. Set the lettering aside. 2. Use your scissors to create scallop on both the top and bottom of the larger paint samples. This will give them a fancier and festive look. 3. You are now going to attach your lettering. Do this by using craft glue to secure each letter to the center of the larger vigorously squares. 4. Add additional embellishment to the squares. We cut out some small hearts and placed them in various places on the squares. 5. Run your string through the cards so the banner can hang. Our swatches already had the holes in them, but if yours don t simply cut one out and thread the string through. There you have it!
