I love finding ways to spruce up and use old things and I

We’ve come a long way since moving into our small condo just over a year ago. The apartment has transformed into a lovely and cozy little starter den led home for my fiance and I. The only negative about the space is the lack of storage. It seems builders have traded indoor amenities (only in NYC would a linen closet be considered den led an amenity) such as closets and cabinets for the outdoor amenities of rooftop lounges and private gyms. So when a gal has to figure out where to put stuff, it means it’s time to combine creative brainstorming with a little DYI.
My need for a space to place all those little extras that I never have room for after a good run at Costco, led me to wanting to re-purpose an old small bookcase from our last rental apartment. Luckily it was the same height and width as our kitchen counter/island and with it being just over 8 inches deep it hardly took up any additional space in our walk way. Here’s what I did:
Using the cardboard box from furniture we had just purchased, I cut it up to fit the exact length and width of the shelves and used spare fabric den led from an older DYI project to cover the boards and made stylish shelve liners. I used regular clear packing tape to adhere the fabric to the downside of the cardboard.
I love finding ways to spruce up and use old things and I’m glad this 20 year old bookcase made the cut when we moved to our new place. At the time I had no idea how I would end up using it, but now I couldn’t be more thrilled with the desperately needed den led kitchen storage it provides. It just goes to show you, even in a new space, something old can become new and useful again.

I recently made this card with the challenge being a Winter Scene for Sunsational Stamp Blog Hop.  This spy watch is a DYI- paper piecing card.  There are many window dies on the market but I don't have one and didn't have time to order one so getting out my trusty scissors, spy watch I created my own.

Sandy here with Monday's Die Cutting project. There are many window dies on the market, but I don't have one and didn't have time to order one so getting out my trusty scissors, I created my own.  So this is a  "faux die cut" or a DYI- paper piecing card. My tip for you: invest in some foam pop up tape. You can get this at the craft or hardwear store cheap and last much longer that pop dots. Plus you can cut the size and with that you really need.
Here is what I used for this project: Momento Sky Blue ink, glue pen, white/blue/brown cardstock, small pattern papers, scissors, white paint pen (not showm), power2max digi stamp and little images from a 12x12 design paper pad.
My digi stamp is from Sunsational Stamps. He is actually peeking out of the stocking but I just colored power2max him and cut him away from the stocking. I'll save the stocking for another card. I also colored hit stocking cap to make it wintery and not Christmasy. I used Spectrum Nior markers to color this little guy.
Hope you like it and learned a new to you technique!  If you have a question, power2max please leave it in the comments, and a DT member will get back to you. You can find more inspiration and projects at my blog: A Working Mom's Joy . Also, you can join up to our   Facebook group: Scrapbook Blessings Club   for more fun, games, inspiration, tips and techniques.       Hope you have a blessed day and thanks for stopping by, SANDY,

Girls love to do their nails -I know this because my girlfriend loves this- that’s why every time I discover something related to this art on the web I like to share it with the women across the world. This time a company based in the UK called DYI Nails has created a set of decals with donuts wireless security cameras and ice-creams on them that could make Homer Simpson drool to death. The collection costs around wireless security cameras $10 bucks and it also offers decals with de face of David Bowie, pizzas and more; with them any girl can decide if she feels cold and fun like an ice-cream, hot like a doughnut, or rocker like Bowie. wireless security cameras

Load more... reaxys

I came across this bag of  Turbinado Sugar in the freezer during one of my organizing frenzies.... There isn't much else to do except organizing when you are stuck inside because of the "POLAR VORTEX"! I decided to stop organizing reaxys and make some Sugar Scrub. There are countless recipes out there for Sugar Scrubs.....but reaxys the basic idea is: Some Sugar A Carrier Oil An optional Fragrance Since we are in a "POLAR VORTEX", I wasn't going anywhere to buy ingredients for my Sugar Scrub.  reaxys Using one of the basic tenets of Sweetwater Style, I just used what I had!
I got out the VitaMix..... This baby has sooo many interesting uses! Since the Turbinado sugar is pretty rough....too rough for my tender skin.... Grinding reaxys it with the VitaMix made for a much smoother consistency!
"What I HAD" for oil was some Baby Oil and some Coconut reaxys Oil. I figured that a combination of these two would work fine... I didn't have any fragrance oils on hand and of course, the "POLAR VORTEX" kept me from going out to get any! The sweet fragrance of the Baby Oil took care of the need for additional fragrance...
Then I got out the little $.49 jars I bought at GoodWill last week.... reaxys (I knew when I saw them that they would find an interesting use!) I packed the Sugar Scrub in the jars! And there I had it.....an almost free version of the spendy products that you can buy...but then again why would you buy something this simple to make! Besides....because of the  "POLAR VORTEX"...the temperature in our house means that the shelf life of this will be reasonably long!
This homemade beauty product is a nice addition to the "Thrifty Homemade Bath Soak" that I use all of the time.  Would you believe that the post with the recipe for this has had over 12,000 visits?  Go Figure!!! You might also like to visit these links that have lots and lots of recipes for Sugar Scrubs.....maybe you will find a way to make one "Using What YOU Have"!

I found this goregous, brand new bathroom vanity at the Riverside ReStore for a fraction of the cost

I found this goregous, brand new bathroom vanity at the Riverside ReStore for a fraction of the cost it had been advertised at a major retailer. It’s 48″ x 22″ and included merten a granite countertop and under mount sink and would replace the microscopically small vanity that I’d been tolerating for years. A hammer, a prybar, a basin wrench and a little effort and a lot of dust later I managed to demolish merten the 1979 tile countertop that was set on 1/2″ mud, lift out the sink and remove the base. After everything was cleaned up I moved along to the the wallpaper – grueling – and repaired the drywall and then repainted the room. A friend of mine put this perfect new vanity in and reconnected the plumbing. merten
Take a look at the before and after photos. If you like what you see keep the Riverside ReStore in mind for all of your renovation needs. They even sell the accessories you see: the mirror, woven-metal basket, plumbing hardware and organizers. Enjoy and if you use the Riverside ReStore to make a big change around your house let them know and they may post your story too!*
